Be Like Jesus Companion

Developing a Sharing child

“And a little child shall lead them.” (Isaiah 11:6).

Even young children can be a witness for Christ. They can share the good news with others, live according to God’s word and draw others to Christ.

Bible Verses:

Mark 16:15 And he said to them, "Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation."

Isaiah 6:8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Who shall I send"? Then I said, “Here am I! Send me.”

Romans 1:16 "For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes..."

Sharing — Birth-3

You are an important influence on the children in your care. Your children will learn by your example what sharing looks like, your tone of voice, the smile on your lips and in your eyes, when responding to their needs or to their friend’s need. When your children hear you say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ they will mimic your actions and act in a polite and respectful way, too! Be sure to reinforce your children’s natural displays of politeness and respect. Be intentional “thank you for saying ‘please’ for …. Or ‘thank you’ for … Your children will see that you notice and that they are appreciated.

BIG IDEA: Caring

Adventist History – Grandma Ellen

Grandma Ellen had many berries growing in her yard. The children liked to visit her and pick berries with her. They liked to eat Grandma Ellen’s berries too. Grandma Ellen liked to share her berries with friends. She told the children, “These are my berries. But I did not make them. God made the berries. God made His berries for me. I have cared for the berry bushes so they would grow lots of berries and He loves for me to share them with you.” Provide some berries to share with the children.

Domino effect of sharing God's word

Get a set of dominoes.  Draw a picture of a child on one domino. Stand the dominoes in a row. Have the first domino fall into the one behind it so that all of the dominoes fall. Discuss how sharing  the good news with one person can cause a chain reaction and can impact many.

Have your child decorate hearts that have the message "God loves you" on them. Then give them to others (i.e, with the tip at a restaurant, at the check-out stand in the grocery store, your child's teacher, etc.)
